What’s In My Bag: Lunch Bag Edition

Welcome to May! How on earth did that happen? Either way, somehow it’s May already which means our Summer schedule is slowing beginning to roll out and we’re getting ready to launch our service to London Gatwick – woo! I figured I would take some time to sit down and do a post before May gets too hectic and I take off for Scotland twice (no big deal). As promised, I’m continuing to take you guys on a tour of what I bring with me on the road. You’ve already seen inside my bathroom bag, my make-up bag, and my SOS bag in What’s In My Bag? And if that wasn’t enough, today I present to you my lunch bag!

The picture definitely does not do the beast justice. This mighty little bag can hold anything that I throw at it – it’s a trooper! Although this is mainly my lunch bag, those 2 smaller compartments you see also hold more than you can imagine. Let’s take a sneak peek into the top compartment first. This section holds things I need access to quickly whenever my bags are all assembled. Okay, maybe it holds some useless things too but that doesn’t matter!

  • The famous SOS bag that holds all my necessities during a flight
  • My Canadian wallet (Yes I have 2 separate wallets for 2 separate countries. This guy holds 98% of the things I need.)
  • My American wallet (This guy is always loaded with US cash, my visa, and my metro card because I’m a true honorary New Yorker with my very own metro card.)
  • Bose noise cancelling ear buds
  • A temporary tattoo of a radish (Stefan likes to come visit me armed with gifts he’s found since the last time we’ve seen each other and he gave me this a couple of months ago… Little does he know I keep it in my lunch kit because it makes me laugh every time I open it up.)
  • A Paw Patrol colouring book page (A while ago, a little girl on one of my flights was going to Disney with her family on a Make-A-Wish Foundation trip. I gave her the most special treatment any little girl going to visit all the Disney Princesses deserves. She came up to me in the middle of the flight and gave me a giant hug and this drawing and told me that she was going to say hello to Cinderella for me as long as I keep this drawing forever. Done deal little one.)

Moving on to what I keep in what looks like a very small pocket in the front of my lunch bag. This little section holds pretty much anything and everything I need when eating. Prepare to be amazed:

  • Cutlery (So. Much. Cutlery. I take these out of the Plus boxes that don’t get used because it is unbelievably sturdy plastic.)
  • Hotel Pens (People are never prepared for customs cards.)
  • Hot chocolate
  • Pepper
  • Lemon Juice
  • Mustard & Ketchup
  • Jam packets
  • Dehydrated Lime
  • Honey
  • Towelettes

I guess I should show you what the lunch bag is actually meant for – FOOD! The current state of my bag is a mess. I got called in off my Reserve to do Ready Reserve at the airport so I had a lot of food packed. THEN 7 minutes into my Ready Reserve I got called in for a 4 day pairing that included a post clear flight into Orlando. Those damn Americans took my carrots, cucumbers, apple, and bananas but not my chicken. I don’t understand that country at times. Here is my sad contents as of day 3:

  • Arugula & Salad Dressing (Ask me how fun this was to explain to an American.)
  • Tuna salad
  • Yogurt
  • Hummus (Pretty useless without carrots and cucumbers.)
  • Chicken with Rice & Veggies
  • Popcorn (Because duh.)

On any other given day my food situation is much better. This is what I have packed with me on my last couple pairings along with the usual food I always seem to have with me:

  • Soup
  • Tuna
  • Peanut Butter & Apples
  • Cracked Pepper Snap Pea Crisps
  • Veggies & Dip
  • Love Crunch Granola
  • Crackers with Laughing Cow & Pepperoni
  • Bolthouse Green Smoothie
  • Chicken with Rice & Veggies
  • Yogurt
  • Chop Salads
  • Hummus with Carrots & Cucumbers
  • Oatmeal

Well folks, there you have it. The little lunch bag that packs a punch!
